Texas youth are gathering for a week at Fort McKavett to learn about the rich cultural heritage of Texas. "Old Stories, New Voices" provides students the opportunity to experience Native American, Hispanic, African-American and Anglo contributions to the history and culture of Texas!

July 21, 2009
Photo Update

We started our day by helping the wranglers feed their horses. The horses ate breakfast before we did!
After breakfast, we took a ride around Fort McKavett on horseback.





We made food in Dutch Ovens!





We milked a cow and learned about the products that can be made from cow milk: butter, cheese and ice cream!

We learned about farm and ranch life from a real rancher.




We learned about lanolin, a sheep by-product that is used in most lotions ...

It didn't smell very good, though.


Even Mr. Shug thought it smelled funny!
